Tom Steinert-Threlkeld became editorial director at Inter@ctive Week in Sept. 1999. He served as editor-in-chief from May, 1995 to September, 1999. During that time, the magazine earned four Computer Press Association awards, including best overall weekly trade publication, best nontechnical trade publication and rookie publication of the year.

Tom's centerpiece column touches on the wide range of technical, social and business issues that interactive communications, from the Internet to online services to frame relay networks, have spawned.

Prior to joining Inter@ctive Week, Tom had been technology writer and columnist for the Dallas Morning News since 1988, covering the telecommunications, computer and microchip industries. He received the John Hancock Award for Excellence in business journalism and also won Texas' two top writing honors for business writing.

Tom has been involved in interactive services for many years. He founded one of the first commercial online services, called StarText, for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 1981.

He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Joe McGarvey, who returned to Inter@ctive Week following an unsuccessful six-month search for the meaning of life, covers issues and technology connected with the construction of next-generation networks designed to carry voice, video and data traffic.

Prior to joining the start-up staff of Inter@ctive Week in 1994, Joe was an associate editor at Windows Sources Magazine. He has written stories that appeared in several magazines and newspapers. He is most proud, however, of the book Nothing Happened at School Today, which he co-authored with his five-year-old daughter, Hannah, for Mrs. Theiss' preschool class.
